Sunita's Journey: Strength, Family, and Fulfillment

Position: Tailor at Utsaah
A 41-year-old mother of three living in Mumbai, Sunita is a tailor with Utsaah Cooperative, which she joined to help support her family. Through her job, she has developed advanced stitching skills, learned to sew more complex garments, and gained confidence. She now proudly stands up for her rights and has achieved financial independence, using her earnings to pay for her children's school fees without relying on her husband. "He appreciates that," she says with pride.

Personal Life
Sunita describes her family as "rich in understanding, respect, and gratitude." She values their close bond and admires her children for their simplicity and contentment. Though they may not have luxuries, their home is filled with love and mutual respect.

Her husband has been her pillar of support, patiently helping her adjust to city life. When their son, Mahesh, expressed his desire for a wife like his mother, Sunita gently told him, "To find a wife like me, you need to have qualities like your father."

Finding Strength Through Work
Sunita moved to Mumbai at 18, bringing with her a quiet strength and open heart. When her husband's income was not enough to support their growing family, she took up work at Utsah. Over time, she mastered more intricate stitching techniques, gaining not only technical skills but also self-assurance.

Her financial independence has been a source of pride, allowing her to contribute to her children's education. She also instills strong values in them, teaching them the importance of family support. Her husband encourages their eldest son to care for his younger sister, fostering the same nurturing values he has shown his wife.

MarketPlace's Impact
Raising children in Mumbai comes with challenges, and Sunita sometimes wishes she had received more education to better understand their needs. However, she has found guidance and growth through MarketPlace's programs.

"I have learned so much from sessions on parenting, dealing with conflicts, and career guidance," she says. "The best thing I learned was to simply take the time to talk to my children." A Life of Contentment
Reflecting on her journey, Sunita believes true happiness comes from appreciating what one has. "Our needs will never end, but if you find happiness in what you have, life will feel complete."

With a contented smile, she describes her life as fulfilling, rich in love, respect, and family bonds.
