Every cutting table leaves something behind — remnants, offcuts, the fragments that don't make it into the final garment. Most brands call it waste. At MarketPlace, we call it chindi, and it's become one of the most instinctive part of how we design.

For years, we've been gathering these scraps and piecing them into patchwork, then layering that patchwork against yardage to build garments that simply can't be replicated. No two scrap piles are ever alike, so no two pieces ever come out the same. There's a striking beauty in that variability — a one-of-a-kind, heirloom quality that mass production could never replicate. It's the antithesis of the assembly line, and that's precisely the point.
This season, we leaned further into the technique. Knit chindis became cording — their natural stretch made them perfect for it — and we introduced couching to build texture and dimension into the surface. Subtle shifts, but ones that add real richness to the finished piece.

And now, the season's biggest moment: our first-ever Holiday catalog! Statement pieces for celebration, rendered the MarketPlace way — alongside a gifting edit spanning totes, scrunchies, and jewelry. The Holiday line will launch October 16, 2026.
The jewelry is where the story gets its texture. To make it, our women learned crochet from the ground up — not with fine thread, but with thick, elastic knit chindi cords that resist the usual rules. It took patience. There were tangles, restarts, a real learning curve. But there was also laughter, shoulders leaning in, hands guiding hands.
That's the real material here. What began as scrap fabric has become skill, connection, something quietly beautiful. Waste became craft. Craft became community. And community, it turns out, might be our finest material yet.
