Batik Block Printing

The ancient art of Indian block printing includes distinctive regional styles. In all cases it is a labor–intensive, exacting craft. Teak wood blocks are hand carved with a variety of motifs and there is a wooden handle for the artisan to hold while stamping the cloth. The design can be dipped in dye and stamped directly. However, for Batik block printing the design is stamped with a wax resist which will block the dye when the fabric is dipped in dye. Multiple stampings and dyeing can produce complex patterns and colors. The wax is removed by melting it in very hot water, and the melted wax can be reused. Skilled artisans can combine different techniques to create uniquely beautiful fabrics.

Staying with my love of shades of brown and adjacent colors--Redwood is a color that caught my attention. Will this comfortable-looking dress coordinate with a knit jacket in Redwood color from a Summer Sale? No. Yet a deep eggplant, eyelet blouse will work as a coordinating color topper to cover my arms. Add a copper metal concho belt or pendant and I am inspired. Of course this dress is soft, has great pockets, nice modest armholes and the length works for my XL --yet petite frame (5'4"). The Supriya Jersey A-line Midi Tank dress crafted with love by Marketplace: Handwork of India-- is a Yes!

Gorgeous - but overall fit is not for 5'3 person

I love MHI quality so much. I felt that the heft of this knit dress is not suitable for summer. For fall with a t-shirt would be nice. I would loved to have been able to alter it, but the alterations would have been too significant. I feel that this dress is designed for someone that's at least 5'5. The cut just doesn't land in the right places for a shorter person. Impeccable fabric and construction as always.

Love the New Colors in Jersey Fabric!

The Supiya is one of my favorite designs, but I'd only seen it before in black jersey. I have two of those!! They are so comfortable and go with everything. I am delighted to see new colors in jersey fabric.
