What's Happening on the Ground in India - Vol 10

We wanted to share a brief update on what's unfolding in India right now, because the people behind your purchases are navigating some real challenges — and we think you'd want to know.

The conflict involving Iran has created a significant shortage of cooking and industrial gas across the region. For everyday households, that means waiting up to 45 days between fuel refills. For the small, often family-run dyeing and printing workshops we partner with, it means slowdowns, interruptions, and rising costs — all hitting small operations the hardest.

These workshops are not large factories. They're intimate, hands-on places where fabric comes to life through careful, skilled work — exactly the kind of small-batch production that aligns with our commitment to sustainability. But small also means less purchasing power, and right now that's making it harder to get materials when they're needed. Rising costs add another layer of pressure.

When fabric is delayed, everything downstream waits — the stitching, the embroidery, the finishing. The artisans are working hard and creatively to meet fall production timelines, and we are in close contact with everyone, figuring things out as we go.

There's also the weather to contend with. The heat in Mumbai right now is something else — intense enough that the monsoons surely can't be far off. Everyone is hoping that's true, though the rains bring their own complications.

We're sharing this not to worry you, but because we think it matters. Every piece you receive has traveled a longer, more human road than a label can tell. Your patience and your continued connection to this work mean more than ever in moments like this. Thank you, sincerely, for being part of it.
