Marketplace: Handwork of India empowers women in India to break the cycle of poverty and become agents of change through skill training, education, and enrichment opportunities. As these strong and resourceful women develop into skilled artisans and assume leadership roles in their families and communities, we've helped them extend their success to their children through the development of programs that provide educational support.
By placing an order on this website, you are participating in the economic, professional, and societal development of hundreds of women who design and create the high-quality apparel you'll find here. We invite you to browse the handmade collections of our talented artisans and know that the purchase you make today touches the lives of many. Dignity not Charity.
In addition, if you would like to make a donation, it would go to The Armaan Club for children of the artisans.
The Armaan Club for children was developed in collaboration with the artisans, who want their sons and daughters to succeed in school and in life. There are currently 56 members ranging from elementary to high school. The Club not only provides academic support for these students, but it also rounds out their educational experience with a variety of extracurricular classes and activities.
The schools' grading systems are rigorous, so the Armaan Club provides extra help in the form of tutoring and mentoring. The social worker meets with each child and his or her mother 4 times a year to evaluate progress and review goals. We are thrilled to report that nearly a third of the members earned First Class rank. In addition, the Club organizes a variety of enrichment activities: classes in judo, dance and music, soccer teams, day and overnight camps, and art projects. Motivational classes and career guidance also help these young people succeed.
Your donations go towards the expenses incurred for these very important programs. Click here to donate.
