Easy-on and ready to go, this scoop-neck long dress is batik block printed in dark purple with light purple and green accents. The gently gathered skirt has an easy sweep. Hand embroidered florals embellish the bodice. Dropped shoulders and three-quarter-length sleeves. Generously sized, with back tab ties to let you adjust to your preferred fit.

Batik Block Printing

The ancient art of Indian block printing includes distinctive regional styles. In all cases it is a labor–intensive, exacting craft. Teak wood blocks are hand carved with a variety of motifs and there is a wooden handle for the artisan to hold while stamping the cloth. The design can be dipped in dye and stamped directly. However, for Batik block printing the design is stamped with a wax resist which will block the dye when the fabric is dipped in dye. Multiple stampings and dyeing can produce complex patterns and colors. The wax is removed by melting it in very hot water, and the melted wax can be reused. Skilled artisans can combine different techniques to create uniquely beautiful fabrics.

Gorgeous, though disappointing

I love this dress, however, being 5ft. 2in., it doesn't have a prayer of fitting. This style is my favorite, and I've thought of altering it, but shortening it at the waist would ruin the embroidered design, so I'm afraid I'll have to return it. For those of you who are taller, this may suit you very well. Lots of women are not. More petite stylings, please.
