From Sewing To Management: Becoming A Leader

Brinal Rosario lives with her husband and a 13‐year old son. She worked at a diamond company for 12 years until her marriage have had to leave school after her father died. After her marriage, she looked for other possibilities and while at a tailoring class learned that Ranphul Mahila Mandal Cooperative (RMM) was being started.

"I saw it as further training in sewing," she explains, "but as we started, I realized it was much more." She has been a member of RMM since its launch in 2014, and has become one of its leaders. Her talent with numbers and her leadership abilities led to her overseeing the accounts and now sharing the responsibility for overall production planning and quality. MarketPlace's Amisha Patil says, "Brinal is always quick to step in to solve issues, making sure the whole group comes together to complete a task."

Brinal feels that her leadership style is to be straightforward and fair: "I also like to have fun, and that helps me connect with everyone."
