Anandi’s life is a testament to courage, resilience, and the power of family. Today, she works at Arpan Cooperative with pride in her heart, watching the women around her grow and knowing the strength her own daughters carry into the world.
The third of five siblings, Anandi grew up in a close-knit family, most of whom now live in Mumbai. Her late husband, Shri Mahesh, worked as an auto rickshaw driver with an uncertain income and little support. He became critically ill and passed in 2015. At that time survival meant relying on the handwork skills she had learned as a child—knitting, embroidery, and stitching, which was not very lucrative.
Even in her darkest moments, Anandi drew strength from her three children. Her eldest balanced night college with work, while all three remained focused on learning. Her middle daughter, determined to be independent, delayed marriage to build her career—an uncommon path in their community. Despite criticism and upheaval, Anandi guided her family with quiet determination.
Her daughter became a nurse, eventually buying a home and celebrating her engagement at 32. Anandi also supported her daughter-in-law in pursuing government exams, providing early mornings and household relief until she succeeded.
Through it all, Anandi learned to face challenges like a ball—kick them away with strength. “After every night,” she says, “there is a new morning.”
