Sharda Vinod Sakpal, 48, from Mumbai, never imagined she would become a leader. “I have grown to be like a son to my parents and a pillar for my late brother’s family, supporting them both financially and emotionally. I feel a deep pride when my grown-up son, who is now an architect, seeks my advice. Once, I was the most timid girl in my family, but today I am a confident leader who thinks not just of myself, but of 10 to 11 artisans and their livelihoods every day. I make my own decisions without worrying about what others might think. Looking back, I see a strong, bright Sharda who has grown in courage, responsibility, and heart.”
Her journey began with responsibility landing squarely on her shoulders. She began working in a diamond factory but after 11years, the factory closed. Determined to support her family, Sharda began stitching blouses from home. The work was irregular, the income modest, but her dedication, patience, and skill set her apart. Her perseverance led her to join Nirman Collective, where she built a reputation as a talented and reliable tailor over more than a decade.

In 2023, when Nirman reorganized into two groups. Sharda hesitated at the thought of stepping into leadership. Yet she slowly embraced the role of Cooperative Manager for Nischay Cooperative. Balancing family responsibilities, she also became a steady, guiding presence for her team of artisans.
Shy and soft-spoken by nature, Sharda found courage through the encouragement of her family, her team, and her mentor, Bhakti Didi, MarketPlace Production Manager. She grew into her role with patience, empathy, and collaboration, ensuring every artisan in her cooperative thrives. Along the way, she strengthened her skills in communication, problem-solving, and resilience.
Sharda cherishes her financial independence, the respect of her family, and the pride of nurturing her team. Looking ahead, she dreams of traveling across India, exploring new places, and continuing to lead her cooperative with warmth, positivity, and teamwork at the heart of everything she does.
