Finding Confidence—and Joy—in the Everyday
After moving to Mumbai from her village in Ratnagiri in 2017, Dhanashree found city life overwhelming. But with support from her husband and in—laws, she adjusted. Already skilled at stitching sari blouses, she worked in a factory—until inflexible hours and long travel times forced her to leave when her son Vedansh was born.
When Vedansh turned 3, she searched for flexible work. During a tough time—her husband was hospitalized—she found the Pragati Group. A tailor had just left, and she was offered the role. “I'm still so grateful,” she says.
Known for her cheerful spirit, Dhanashree often goes the extra mile—stitching, tagging, ironing, even office errands. She has grown in skill and confidence.
What stands out most? “Dancing on Artisan Day! That joy, and supporting my family, paying for my son's education, choosing my clothes—it's all part of feeling independent. When I wanted to wear a dress instead of a saree, my husband supported me. That felt big.”
