The Art of Chindi: Reshaping Fashion Through Textile Recycling

The fabric scraps which are left over from cutting and finishing garments are called Chindi in India. These bits and pieces of our beautiful hand‐dyed fabrics are too good to waste, so we have created a number of ways to use them. It's good for the environment too.

You will find them throughout our collection as accents, pannels, borders – whatever we can come up with to add a unique touch to our garments. The process by which this chaotic jumble of colors and patterns is tamed requires both creativity and careful organization.

First the pieces are sorted into light and dark prints, color families and general size. To make the patchworks more consistent, they are then over‐dyed. This way the appearance is more harmonious, and it allows all the pieces in a line to be similar. Our Chindi creations reduce waste, enhance artisans' sewing skills, and showcase unique innovative design techniques.

I love the shirt. It is oversized and I like the look and feel of it. If you want a closer to the body fit size down. The shirt is comfy and I will get a lot of wear out of it. It goes with many pants I have. You can dress it up or down. Totally recommend.
