Intricate Kalamkari print dress with hand embroidered paisley yoke, dolman sleeves, and a gently gathered tiered skirt. The ornate black, red and gold paisley and floral designs are printed in natural dyes. V-neck, with a single button back closure. Three-quarter length sleeves with elastic. Generously cut - consider sizing down for a less oversized look.

Kalamkari:

The word Kalamkari is derived from a Persian word where 'kalam' means pen and 'kari' refers to craftsmanship. Initially Kalamkari fabrics were hand painted but today wooden carved blocks are used. Kalamkari textiles were a prized trading commodity throughout Asia and Europe for hundreds of years. This traditional art has survived among dedicated artisans in southern India who follow the age–old techniques and natural dye recipes of this painstaking process. The process can involve 23 steps each requiring precision and an eye for detailing.

Beautiful Dress

I purchased this dress on sale for the upcoming season of fall and winter, which for my location won't be until mid-October at the earliest. The colors of Burgandy, gold and cream are beautiful for fall, and the cotton is a thicker weight than what is used for summer apparel. I can wear as a dress or with leggings underneath. And the sale price was a real bonus.

The print on this dress is absolutely gorgeous! I always get so many compliments on my Marketplace garments. And it feels so good to know that the purchases help improve women's lives. Well worth the price!
