Preparing for School with Pride - Vol 3

School in India is no small thing. The system, rooted in the British model, places a strong emphasis on end-of-year exams—so memorization and test prep are a big part of the experience. Classrooms tend to be full (sometimes as many as 75 students!), which means learning can feel fast-paced and focused on the group rather than the individual.

Still, there's a strong sense of structure and discipline. All students wear uniforms, and it's especially touching to see children from the slums—many from families with limited means—heading off to school looking so neat and put-together. Girls with freshly braided hair and ribbons, boys in well-pressed shirts.

The women artisans start their days early—washing and ironing uniforms, packing lunches, and making sure everyone gets a good breakfast before heading out the door. It's a small but powerful act of hope and dignity—proof that no matter where they live, these children show up ready to learn, and ready to be seen.

It's that care that helps turn hard days into hopeful ones.
